The invisible benefits of exercise
What is your why?
Why do you exercise?
Most people start from a place of wanting to lose weight.
BUT there are so many other benefits that you can not see!
So what are the invisible benefits?
1. Cardiovascular benefits
Exercise improves heart health and strength. As you work your skeletal muscles they require more oxygenated blood in order to work more effectively and efficiently. That requires your heart to pump faster and harder therefore strengthening the cardiac muscle. Reducing your risk of heart disease and lowering blood pressure.
2. Optimising blood sugar control.
When we eat, our glucose levels rise. We release insulin to lower it. As we get older this blood sugar control mechanism weakens which can sometimes result in diabetes.
3. Strengthening bones and muscles.
One of the biggest physical benefits is that it reduces risk of osteoporosis and weakening of the bones. The best form of exercise to strengthen the bones is through low impact resistance training.
4. Gets the good juices flowing!
When we exercise our body releases endorphins which are the feel good hormones. Exercise is brilliant for changing your mental state and reducing the chance of mental health issues. It also gets you out of your head and into your body!
5. Brain health
Research has shown that people who do regular exercise are at much lower risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and dementia.
